Rumen Stoichkov graduated in Bulgarian Philology and History from Sofia University. His 30-year professional career as a journalist was spent at BNR. For various programmes and broadcasts, mainly in "Horizon", he is the author of more than 2000 interviews and reports, made mainly in small settlements, whose history and fate has always interested him. Because it is not only regional, but also part of the national memory, as he himself claims. That is why in this and in his previous six books you will find memories of Levski, Botev, heroes of the April Uprising, legends and legends related to Tsar Samuil, Tsar Ivan-Shishman, Tsar Kaloyan... In his rich textual and photographic material you will see the creative genius of the Bulgarian, his ability to survive, his wisdom, his sense of humour, his age-old resilience and hopes for a better life, however sad they may sometimes sound.
