Description

For decades, the issue of social disobedience has been constantly addressing thinkers and political scientists. Tsvetan Todorov approached it with eight biographical inscriptions by Eti Hillem, Germaine Tion, Boris Pasternak, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Nelson Mandela, Malcolm Eks, David Schulmann, and Edward Snowwood. These predecessors or contemporaries lived and worked in different countries and in different walks. But they all rejected, for moral reasons, a definite social evil that the whole society suffers from. Their non-prejudice is not the result of negativism, possibly inherent in their character, but of striving to affirm positive universal human values.

Todorov places the portraits of his characters in the context of their national and professional reality. For that reason, he reveals a splendid but precisely a multifaceted world with distinctive differences and similarities between its various parts and its individual representatives. For his unity, we judge the common moral virtues of disobedient individuals whose actions have had a decisive political effect. Todorov devises it so that the disobedience of these moral specimens sound current and topical.
