Andrei Platonov is a bright representative of the Russian avant-garde. He has been compared to Joyce, Kafka, Dostoevsky, Ionesco and Beckett. In his works there are elements of grotesque and utopia. He is said to portray realistically the absurdity of life in the USSR. He uses shocking language. He manages to combine incompatible concepts and his suggestions have a frightening power. He often chooses words as if he were mining the text with explosives.
Many of Platonov's stories, like his fairy tales, are perceived as parables. This collection specifically includes works unknown to Bulgarian readers, which are lyrical and dramatic, poignant and full of compassion. This is the first time his tales have been published in Bulgarian. The fantastic stories in the book are a continuation of the writer's enthusiastic dreams from his youth for a better life with the help of scientific progress and the domestication of nature.
