In the present study, for the first time, five hymnographic works for St. Petka of Tarnovo are published. Their place in the hymnographic tradition and their interrelation with the already studied works related to her are defined.
St. Petka of Tarnovo was born in the town of Epivataton, on the Mediterranean, in the 11th century. She led a goodly life and after her death her relics became the symbol of the struggle for protection of Christian culture from Ottoman assimilation. The feast honoring St. Petka – Petkovden marks in traditional belief the end of the summer and autumn period of the active agricultural cycle.Some issues related to the dissemination of the cult to St. Petka of Tarnovo and the hymns in her honor, as well as the influence that they of the mixing and interaction with the cult of St. Petka of Rome are discussed.
