The transition seen by the outgoing socialist society is the final battle between the Party and the economic nomenclatures. It legitimated private ownership and unleashed the individual entrepreneurship, but also destroyed the corporate structure of the Bulgarian economy. The desolate" state-owned firms have been left with torn technological connections, vulnerable to political, syndicate, power, and other forms of out-of-market pressure. A Pressure coming from the new financial and economic groups of winners of the final battle within the nomenclature. However, they did not reach to the level of power of the Russian or Ukrainian oligarchs, since in the mid-1990s the conflict between the "elite of the Perestroika" and the new leadership of BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party) failed a well-designed strategy. According to it, by imposing in the financial system and trade, seizure the entry-exit economy and mass privatization, these groups had to acquire an adequate industrial base and finally to master the country.
This book is an attempt for a "scandal" - it aims to say things that are often suppressed, even though they are "known". By enlightening the "hidden fields" of the State Transition and outlining the actual power centers, it tries to predict the unexpected directions of change in Bulgarian society related to the consequences of the Transition and the future of Bulgaria as part of European and global networks.
