Towards the end of his life - not only long but also incredibly full of important events, curious stories and dramatic turns, Dimitar Marinov writes his autobiography. He completely reveals his unexpected talent as a writer, skillfully selected "mitarstva" (adventures and trials), the lively dialogue, the storylines and the magnificently portrayed characters and scoundrels. The book is more fascinating and readable than a nice written novel. Thanks to his good memory and the power of his vivid personal fate, the author recreates in an unique way the authentic atmosphere of Bulgarian life during the Renaissance and the first decades after the so-called Liberation - quite different from what today's reader knows from textbooks and other "political correct" scriptures. He also leaves a gallery of vivid images of prominent personalities, who encounters at various stages of his life - the respected teachers Krastyo Pishurka and Nikola Parvanov, the church figures Neofit Rilski and Ekzarh Yosif, the voivode Panayot Hitov and others, the builders of new Bulgaria - Petko Karavelov and Stefan Stambolov, and many others.
