Dimitar Marinov

Dimitar Marinov is a Bulgarian ethnographer, founder and first director of the Ethnographic Museum.

He is born 14.10.1846 in Valchedram, Montana. He studied at the Rila Monastery (1863) and at the Military Medical School (Tsarigrad, 1867-71). In 1875 he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade and started working as a teacher in Lom that same year. Member of the Constituent Assembly, judge in Lom, Silistra, Rousse, Vidin (1879-82). Director of the National Library (1894), teacher in Lom, Rousse and Sofia. Founder and director of the Ethnographic Museum (1904-1908). In 1921 he accepted a spiritual san. He actively collaborates with articles and studies in the field of folklore and ethnography in periodicals; translator. Author of "The History of Bulgarian Literature" (1887), "Living Old" (I - 1891, ІІ, ІІІ - 1892, IV - 1894, V - 1901, VI - 1907, VII - "(1898)," Evtimii Patriarh Tarnovski "(1900) and others. He died in 1940 in Sofia.
