Жаден бях да видя много места и градове. Желаех да посетя най-напред Дедеагачко, Гюмюрджинско, Скеченско, Кавалско и после да мина в Драмско, Неврокопско, Мелнишко, Серско, Солунския, Битолския и Скопския вилает. С параходи и железници не ми се искаше да пътувам. Искаше ми се да яздя кон, да се скитам през гори и планини, за да видя отблизо богатата южна природа, да пия от студените планински води и да си почивам под дебелите сенки на клончестите дървета. Но не беше възможно да захвана пътуването си на кон от самия Цариград, защото в такъв случай щеше да ми е нужна цяла година.
