The book publishes for the first time in Bulgarian excerpts from Mikhail Bulgakov's diaries (published only after 1989) and his letters, along with documents from important moments in his life. In this way, three sides of his experience are presented: how he himself felt about it, how he relayed it to his relatives, and what the consequences were that necessitated communication with the authorities. It is well known that the writer was persecuted and banned, but this book makes clear how monstrous the government's crime against him was.

Also included are 23 articles, short stories and feuilletons by Bulgakov, most of which have never been published in Bulgarian before. In his diary, the writer also expresses his opinion on the events related to the September Uprising in Bulgaria in 1923.
