For about fifty years as a result of Balkan misunderstanding and political short-sightedness, the Ottomans conquered the Bulgarian lands. Along with this, during the second half of the 14th century Bulgarian medieval culture reached its peak from the reign of Tsar Ivan Alexander to the work of Patriarch Evtimii.
This extremely interesting period of our history is told fascinating by the great Bulgarian historian Vasil Zlatarski. At the dawn of the 20th century Prof. Zlatarski, like his unknown predecessor of five centuries ago, introduced us to the conceptual impasse and search for something new in Orthodoxy.
