Description

It was the beginning of the beautiful spring of 1891. I received the opportunity to finally take a trip to some little-known places for me in the European Ottoman Empire. I was eager to see many places and towns. I wanted to visit Dedeagachko, Gumyurdzinsko, Skhechensko, Kavalsko first and then go to Drama, Nevrokop, Melnik, Serres, Salonika, Bitola and Skopje. With steamers and railways I did not want to travel. I wanted to ride a horse, wander through forests and mountains, see the rich southern nature, drink from the cold mountain waters and rest under the thick shadows of the trees. But it was not possible to get on a horse ride from Constantinople itself, because then I would need a whole year.
