In The Truth Against Lying Petar Boyadzhiev considers the so-called "May protests in 1989" and the subsequent wave of ethnic cleansing. This event is of crucial importance for the new Bulgarian history. Peter Boyadzhiev's research is backed up by a great deal of evidence: audio recordings and written material from the author's personal archive, documentation from the State Security Archive and hundreds of human testimonies.

"The Bulgarian state still has not given a worthy response to what began on May 20th. It is a pity that many Bulgarians today say, "The Mafia has a state." It is obvious that the state does not do the right thing to be respected", says Petar Boyadzhiev.
