Cold War in a Hot Place is a humorous and sideways look at something that dominated our lives in the 1960s and 70s.
The two authors had some involvement in the way the Cold War manifested itself in Africa. For the first time, we see inside a Soviet Military Adventure inside Ethiopia, and the more bizarre side of Intelligence in East Africa. The authors share their experiences on either side of the Mahogany Curtain playing the great ideological game — though not very seriously. Scary though it could be, at least the Cold War had rules, as does chess. What we have now in terms of world geopolitics looks like savage anarchy and makes some of us remember the Cold War with a certain amount of guarded respect!
