Rumyana Taslakova

Rumyana Taslakova, born in Sofia, managed to emigrate to Germany at the age of 17. The Communist regime is sentenced her to six years in prison for treason to the Republic. In Germany, she studied Economics and Slavistics and in 1963 she began work at the Deutsche Welle radio station, which until 1989 was one of the most important information sources in Bulgaria. Ten years later, Taslakova is editor-in-chief of the Bulgarian program of Deutsche Welle. Thanks to the Bulgarian editorial and her personal commitment during the change and the Transition period in Bulgaria, Deutsche Welle became a major platform from which Bulgaria's non-communist leaders could speak freely and be heard on Bulgarian and European publicity. Since 2009 she has been a freelance journalist. Among the recognition she has received are the awards for her work such as "Prize of the Union of Journalists in Bulgaria" and "Special award for the contribution in the promotion and objective presentation of the European theme in the Bulgarian radio journalism", awarded in 2008 by Arena Media in Rousse. Author and compiler of three books.
