Rumen Stoyanov was born in 1941 in the village of Draganovo, Veliko Tarnovo. He studied at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and graduated from the Spanish University of Havana. He worked in Brazil as a diplomat for ten years. He lives in Latin America for 18 years. Since 1969 he is a lecturer at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ".
He translates poetry and fiction from Spanish and Portuguese into Bulgarian and vice versa. Among his translations are Marquez ("One Hundred Years of Solitude"), Cortesar, Borges, Carpentier. He is the author of numerous articles and essays. He has published 27 books of poetry, essay, journalism, research, of which 5 abroad.
The only Bulgarian honorary doctor in Latin America (Brazil, 2012).
