The novel De/Doubling expands upon the concept of semiotic pragmatism. The plot takes place on a ship, sailing among abandoned art communities in Europe. The ship is a replica of the Titanic and the symbol of the search for new sense. Three stories flow throughout the book, outlining and multiplying a sense of а catastrophe: a love story starting from its end towards its beginning; a voyage of a ship, where the stories develop; and continuing discussions among the passengers, who are famous thinkers and artists from the beginning of 20-th century. With the exception of the storyteller all of the other characters are historically existing persons. The overall idea of the novel is to show the anticipated deadlock to which traditional thinking leads and the search for a new way out by activating a visual and perceptible sign-context.
