Acad. Petko Stoyanov Staynov is a Bulgarian jurist, diplomat and politician. He has been a professor of administrative law for many years and has been involved in the third government of Andrei Lyapchev (1930-1931) and as foreign minister in the second government of Kimon Georgiev (1944-1946).
Despite his left-wing beliefs, after 9 September, he became inconvenient to power because of his independent behavior towards Bulgarian-Soviet relations. He tried as much as possible under the power of the Communists to courage and tact to defend Bulgarian economic interests in relations with the USSR. After his withdrawal from the political arena, under the pressure of Moscow, he began a scientific-pedagogical activity. He is one of the most prominent lecturers and scientists in the field of legal science.
