Nadia Hashimi is a writer and pediatrician of Afghan descent who has published international bestsellers for young adults and adults. Her novels, which have been translated into 70 languages, span generations and continents and address contemporary themes such as migration, international conflict, poverty, colonialism and addiction.
Nadia was born and raised in New York and New Jersey. Both of her parents were born in Afghanistan and left it in the early 1970s. She majored in Middle Eastern Studies and Biology at Brandeis University and studied medicine in Brooklyn, NY, and then completed her pediatric residency training.
On days off from a busy emergency room and after years of avid reading, she began crafting stories that drew on her heritage and the complex experiences of Afghans.
