Georgi Petrov Batakliev is a Bulgarian translator of works by ancient authors, as well as a number of Byzantine and Western sources for medieval Bulgarian history. Georgi Batakliev shared with Alexander Nichev the fame of the most important translator of ancient poetry in Bulgaria.
He was born on January 24, 1910 in the town of Kazanlak. He graduated from classical high school in Varna (1928) and classical philology at Sofia University (1932). He was a lecturer and teacher in Greek in Kyustendil, Plovdiv and Sofia (1932-1945). In 1945-1949 he led the publishing house "Bulgarian Book".
