Franco Cardini (born August 5, 1940 in Florence) is an Italian historian, essayist and blogger, specialized in Middle Ages. Prof. Franco Cardini is a specialist in Islam, Arab civilization and the Middle East.
He graduated from Florentine University in 1966. In 1967 he became a volunteer assistant to the famous Italian historian Ernesto Sestan. Originally an assistant in medieval and modern history, he later became a professor of medieval history at the same university, and in 1985, associate professor and professor at the University of Bari. He is currently a lecturer at the Italian Institute of Humanities (Suma) and member of the Consultative Council of the San Marino School of Historical Research.
