This book compares English and Bulgarian surnames motivated by personal anthroponyms. Discussed are the general trends and the unique characteristics of both systems of surnames. The observations are based on a corpus of 11,275 English surnames excerpt from Oxford Dictionary of English Surnames (Reaney 2005), and 8141 Bulgarian surnames from Речник на личните и фамилни имена у българите (Илчев/Ilchev 1969).
