Dimitar Pampulov (b. 1942) is a renowned art historian, publicist, and expert in international cultural relations, whose career has been instrumental in showcasing Bulgarian visual arts on the global stage. Born in Plovdiv, he graduated in Spanish Philology from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and later specialized in Foreign Trade at the Institute of Economics. His interdisciplinary background enables him to blend linguistic erudition with large-scale organizational initiatives focused on European artistic traditions and 20th-century avant-garde movements.
Pampulov’s professional journey is deeply linked to Spain, where as early as the 1970s, he established significant connections with leading contemporary artists. During the 1980s, as Director of the "Art" Department at Hemus, he organized the international participation of Bulgarian artists in prestigious forums in Basel, Cologne, Paris, New York, and Madrid. Following the democratic transition, he pioneered the first official art auctions for Bulgarian classics in Sofia and later served as Executive Director of Raznoiznos AD and Chairman of the Bulgarian-Spanish Economic Council at the BCCI.
Within the Iztok-Zapad Publishing House catalog, Dimitar Pampulov contributes extensive research that combines memoirs, art historical analysis, and historical parallels:
The author of numerous essays and articles in specialized journals like LIK, and having prepared a postgraduate fellowship at the Institute of Art Studies on "Zurbarán and Spanish Mysticism," Dimitar Pampulov remains one of the most insightful observers of European cultural exchange, dedicating decades to establishing high aesthetic standards in Bulgarian society.
