Description

The dictionary contains about 5000 words, including the most active word-stock in the modern Japanese language. The lexical minimum of 4833 words for the second level of the Japanese language proficiency exam was taken as basis, using the latest revised Japanese Language Proficiency Test: Test Content Specifications. (Tokyo, 2002).

The compilation was made by Bratislav Ivanov, a long-time lecturer in Phonetics, Graphics and Lexicology of Modern Japanese language at Sofia University, and editor - Kalina Yordanova, a Japanese language teacher at Sofia University.

It is good to master both the lexical and the hieroglyphic minimum at the same time, and the use of the Japanese Hieroglyphic Dictionary is recommended for this purpose (East-West, 2005).
