Efficient treatment (the fastest and lasting outcome at the least cost) depends not only on the right choice of medication, but to a crucial extent on its dosage. There is a lot of evidence that drugs currently used today are taken in quantities that are significantly larger than needed and are not safe. Dose and time considerations in the development and use of a drug are important for assessing actions and side effects, as well as predictions of safety and toxicity.

Generally the effects of different doses can be very different at different levels (not only bigger and smaller impacts depending on dose).
