Bernd Stiegler was born in 1964. He studied literature and philosophy in Tübingen, Munich, Paris, Berlin, Freiburg and Mannheim. From 1999 to 2007, he worked as a program manager for science department at Zurkamp Publishing House.
Since autumn 2007, he has been Professor of Contemporary German Literature and Media History at the University of Constance, focusing on the history and theory of photography in the 19th and 20th centuries, and on the German literature of the 20th century. His work is also related to the Visual Culture and the Imagery and Visual Theory.
