Benjamin (also called Bojan) was a son of Simeon (also SymeonI the Great and the youngest brother of Peter I. He was accused of being a werewolf and magician by the Italian Bishop Liutprand of Cremona.

The literary texts interpreting the image of Bojan the Magician constitute an entire literary anthology. The line of authors is starting with the names of enlighteners and revolutionaries of the Bulgarian Revival, including Yuriy Venelin, Georgi Rakovski, Dobri Voynikov. After the Liberation, writers who declare differently their creative attitude to him are Stoyan Mihaylovsky, Peyo Yavorov, Ivan Grozev, Kiril Hristov, Anton Strashimirov, Nikolay Raynov, Lyudmil Stoyanov, Geo Milev, Teodor Trayanov, and more recently: Kamen Zidarov, Ivan Bogdanov, Georgi Grozdev, etc. The list is not complete. Some have never reached the realization of their concept in a work, as is the case with Yavorov and Trayanov.
