Archaeology. Ancient Greek Art

Professor Bogdan Filov's lectures give us the opportunity to step into the laboratory of one of the most powerful archaeologists of the twentieth century worldwide, who built this science in Bulgaria. In the decades that have elapsed since their presentation, the research apparatus has multiplied, refined, and complicated, the range of sites has expanded, and the interpretive literature has grown enormously. Perhaps this is what extends the focal distance of observation on the methods, criteria, and moves of thought inherent in one of the pioneers of archaeology as applied here and to a broad section of art history. Bogdan Filov's lecture series thus manifests itself both as a valuable monument of Bulgarian academic culture and as a functioning research tool.
