Adam S. Hayes is an economic sociologist in the department of sociology at the University of Lucerne. His research investigates sociological factors that influence financial decision-making and that structure economic behavior — which have previously gone unnoticed. This work reveals novel effects that social relations, culture, institutions, and technology have on economic action such as investing, borrowing & lending, and financial risk-taking. His scholarship is both empirical and theoretical, and falls at the intersection of economic sociology, the social studies of finance, and behavioral economics. He has received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also holds an MA in economics and is a CFA (chartered financial analyst) charterholder.
