Stoyan Petrov-Chomakov is one of our best diplomats, serving with dedication to Bulgaria for thirty-five years (1910-1945). His fate assign him to complete his diplomatic career as a Minister Plenipotentiary in Tokyo during one of the most turbulent and tragic periods in Japan's history (1944-45).
In 1947, as an exile in Brussels with still fresh impressions and observations about the situation in Japan he writes and publish his book "The spirit of diplomacy ”. The Bulgarian readers are already familiar with his style and know him as a very talented storyteller, endowed with a rare subtle sense of humor and a sense of the comic side of human life. They will now have the opportunity to enjoy again his art of combining concentrated historical information and in-depth political analysis with unforgettable anecdotal stories and extremely insightful observations on the national character and spirituality of the Japanese people. In addition, they will undoubtedly be impressed by the contrast between the tragic post-war situation of destruction, famine and misery described in Japan by the author, and its current position as a world leader. With this book the readers will also understand how this has been achieved.
