Although today Arthur Conan Doyle is primarily known for his Sherlock Holmes stories and the fantasy adventure novel The Lost World, he also wrote some of the most iconic scary stories published in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Some of them are supernatural, others psychological, but all are told as only a master of Victorian horror could tell them. In them, classic ghosts parade and souls change bodies, spiritualistic seances summon beings from the astral plane, possessed objects harass people, monsters haunt the upper atmosphere, serial killers terrorize peaceful English towns, demonic men and women kill with paranormal abilities, bloodthirsty beasts and sinister inventions bring doom to the unwary, and mummies stalk the mist-shrouded streets.

The present volume includes Doyle's best scary stories, some of which are published in English for the first time.
