Description

Above all, Neo-Ottomanism is more than an ideology. It is a philosophy of history, a civilization paradigm, and a major worldview characteristic of the modern Turkish nation, and especially of its intellectual elite. Neo-Ottomanism is a reflection of the imperceptible nostalgia of a great historical nation, dissatisfied with its position and role in the world now. As such, Neo-Ottomanism is a deep-seated constant in Turkey's foreign policy, despite all the actual and apparent conceptual and political interruptions of continuity, including Ataturk's radical secular revolution.

Neo-Ottomanism is neither good nor bad. From the point of view of historical logic and utilitarian ethics" it could even be said to be legitimate. It is advisable, when speaking and writing about it, to avoid positive or negative value judgments, and even more so - prejudices. It is also inappropriate to escape from facing up to its existence and politically correctness to leave behind ignorant silence. Still nowadays, the most dangerous is the ignorance that no one has any rights for. Because tomorrow may be too late.
