Claudius Galen is the most famous physician and medical scientist after Hippocrates, born in 129 AD. in the city of Pergamon (Аncient Greek city in Aeolis). He spent most of his life in Rome as Emperor Doctor of Marcus Aurelius, his son Commodus (161-192) and Septimius Severus (145-211), who ruled with his sons Caracalla (188-217) and Geta (189-211). In his last years, he returned to Pergamon, where he died about 216 AD.
This collection consists of 122 of Galen's treatises, translated from the original Greek into Latin. Many of Galen's works are included in the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae, a digital library of Greek literature started in 1972. Another useful modern source is the French Bibliothèque interuniversitaire de médecine.
