This edited book is a festschrift honouring of Professor Yordan Peev, a historian of the Arab world and Islam, one of the founders of Arabic and Islamic studies at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
Yordan Peev was born in 1938 in Sofia. He graduated in History at the Sofia University. He studied Arabic in Tunisia, specialized history of the Arab world and Islam in Paris and Oxford: Guest Professor at the College of France (1530). Lecturer at the Universities of Paris, Naples, Sassari, Utrecht, Leuven, Algeria, Damascus, Kuwait and others. He leads a seminar "Europe and Islam" at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium (1996-2008). He is the author of 11 books and more than 30 studies and articles. Winner of the Sharjah International Award for Arabic Culture (2006), awarded annually by UNESCO. As a scholar, he is respected and highly valued in the European Union of Arab and Islamic Studies (UEAI), where, until the 1990s, he represents the Bulgarian Islamic science and subsequently continues to contribute to its development.
