The questions about space and time conquer the imagination more than any other scientific question. And not in vain. They make up the scene of reality, the very fabric of space. Our whole existence - everything we do, think and experience - happens in some area of space over a period of time. Yet science is still struggling to understand what space and time really are. Are they real physical objects, or are they just useful ideas? If they are real, are they fundamental or do they originate from some more basic constituent elements? What does it mean the space to be empty? Did time have a beginning? Does it have an arrow flying inexorably from the past to the future, as our daily experience shows? Can we manage space and time? In this book, we will trace the three centuries of passionate scientific quest for answers (or at least hints of answers) to these fundamental but profound questions about the nature of the universe.

Managing one's own destiny, using the energy of the planetary field and interacting with it, influencing space and time, transforming cause and effect relationships - all these hard-to-describe skills from ancient times are considered to be the field of action of magicians and shamans. These abilities and skills were not found in the traditional picture of the world, and therefore considered (and still consider) paranormal.

All existing theories, however, which attempt to conceptualize the magic of the ancients and to separate the rational grain from it, find themselves unable to relate the whole psychophysical facts observed. Carlos Castaneda offers a new perspective on this mysterious subject, based on the Indian magical tradition of developing and raising awareness, taught over the years by one of the Toltec magicians. Don Juan Matus - Castaneda's Indian teacher - shows the novice anthropologist that the world can be viewed in a different way in principle. And in this other worldview paradigm that Don Juan regards as Toltec, mysterious phenomena receive an original and effective explanation.
