Petar Karchev is a descendant of the respected Ohrid family Karchevi, modest and less known participants in the struggles of the Bulgarian Revival. Following the chronology of his biography, but not to point out himself, but in order to be as authentic and convincing as possible, the author introduces us consistently into the life of the Bulgarians in Ohrid in the late nineteenth century and in the Principality of Bulgaria in the early twentieth century. A great place in the book takes its memories of the glorious and tragic days of the Balkan and Second Balkan War, in which he participates. His memories are valuable as he is a direct witness of number of decisions-making situations of crucial importance for Bulgaria and during the First World War.
But the most interesting and detailed are the facts related to number of prominent figures from the Bulgarian cultural, economic and political history.
Published for the first time the memories of Petar Karchev will be interesting both for the researchers of Bulgarian political and cultural history (as a valuable source material) and for the general public - although these memories have come out from the experience of a long-time journalist, they are alive and juicy, they are readable and full of anecdotal happenings.
